David Philip Hefti is the rising star of the youngest generation of composers, and the four string quartets written by him to date dazzlingly confirm this status.

It has been a long time since we have experienced just as much rich colour, great profundity and refreshing newness in the king of chamber genres as we do in these gripping, captivating and courageous interpretations by the Leipzig String Quartet. The four instrumentalists render the challenging scores with breathless virtuosity, probing all the sound regions on both sides of the bridge.

The composer also found their approach convincing and dedicated two of these works to the Leipzig String Quartet. It is with deep understanding that they masterfully meet the challenges of these works and set “Leipzig sound” standards of their own.
