Mika EichenholzAbout
The Stockholm Strauss Orchestra has this 19th century music flowing through their veins, and they have already delivered some sparkling performances in operettas including an “especially good” (Gramophone) Fürstin Ninetta by J Strauss II (8.660227-28). Their exploration of less well-trodden popular classical repertoire takes us to a unique event in 1871, bringing Josef Gung’l’s remarkable season in Stockholm to life in a program full of high-class melody and rhythm.
This rarely heard music will be of great interest to the Strauss family’s huge following, and is likely to spark the curiosity of collectors worldwide.
Mika Eichenholz is frequently engaged as guest conductor with Swedish and Finnish orchestras, in addition to return engagements with orchestras in Eastern Europe, Austria and South America. He has a steady relationship with the Kazan State Opera, with which he has toured in Europe on a regular basis with singers from the Bolshoy and Mariinsky Theatres.
