About
Szymanowski, the second most prominent Polish composer after Chopin, became known as a creator who would break patterns, look for new sounds and incorporate Polish music into the European trend.
In Szymanowski's music, the raw beauty of the material drawn from folk music coherently combines with modern and uncompromising solutions of formal compositional art. This album reflects the creative path that Szymanowski took throughout his artistic development, from his fascination with neo-romanticism, through the influences of the Impressionists, to his last stylistic achievements. The tracks featured on the album are transcriptions for flute and piano; an ensemble that Szymanowski never exclusively wrote for in his compositions.
Agata Igras is a versatile flautist and has performed in almost 40 countries on four continents as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra member. She has recorded three solo CD's which brought her very positive international critique and nominations to Fryderyk - the Polish Phonographic Award as well as Clef de Resmusica distinction for the Martinu Chamber Music CD. Recently "Real Life Song" album of Polish contemporary songs with soprano Joanna Freszel, where she recorded all flute parts was awarded with the Orphée d'Or 2016 Prize. Igras graduated from the F. Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw where she studied in the flute class of prof. E. Dastych-Szwarc and the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, the Netherlands in the flute class of prof. Rien de Reede and Thies Roorda.
