About
Charles Ives was born on 20 October 1874 in Danbury, Connecticut, USA. Currently, he is recognised as the first American composer whose oeuvre gained world renown.
Nowadays, Aaron Copland is widely recognised as the father of independent American music. He was born on 14 November 1900 in Brooklyn (New York). In 1920, he went to study in Paris, where he was taught by the legendary Nadia Boulanger. The artist, inspired by the phenomenon of national schools, which was widespread in Europe, decided to translate these ideas into the American reality.
John Corigliano, in turn, is one of the few artists active in the 20th and 21st centuries able to combine elements of Neo-Romantic tonal music with advanced techniques typical of contemporary music in such a natural way.
