Julian Lloyd WebberAbout
This box consists of 4 previously released discs:
8572902 was called Evening Songs with music by Delius and Ireland was Classic FM CD of the Week. Gramophone wrote: “Julian Lloyd Webber brings an especially sensitive ‘voice’ to the Barjansky-Stradivarius cello…in the subtle changes of register and tone he lends to his own arrangements (all bar three), with the legerdemain of John Lenehan’s delicate accompaniments.”
On 8573250 he conducted string music with the English Chamber Orchestra – it was a Gramophone Choice recording and a Classic FM CD of the Week. BBC Music Magazine wrote: “Julian Lloyd Webber…evidently has the ability to make a difference to collective performance-level (the English Chamber Orchestra plays character fully and vividly at every point) while not getting in the music’s way – a combination of qualities nicely suited to this line-up of string works.”
8573251 features his own two-cello arrangements with his wife, Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, about which Gramophone wrote that it was “beautifully played and blended together in slow lyrical tunes, with a stylish piano accompaniment…”
8573374 is a Vivaldi album, again with his wife. It was Classic FM CD of the Year.
