About
The third volume in VAI’s series of New York City Ballet performances from the archives of Radio-Canada opens with Maria Tallchief and André Eglevsky in scenes from Act II of Swan Lake, which marked the company’s Canadian television debut in 1954.
This is followed by a rarely seen Coppelia pas de deux from the same year, starring Tanaquil Le Clercq and Eglevsky, which Balanchine choreographed specifically for the telecast.
Rounding off the programme is the 1957 television premiere of Gian Carlo Menotti’s ‘madrigal fable’ The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore, choreographed by John Butler.
